The Challenge
Be The Match, a ~$400M non-profit organization headquartered in Minneapolis and operated by the National Marrow Donor Program, had recently undergone major change when we first engaged with their Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Finance to discuss a critical Director of FP&A talent gap. Be The Match had recently restructured the finance department in an effort to assemble a 15-person strategic financial planning & analysis team dedicated to providing functional senior leaders with decision support, sharing consultative financial advice, and defining the operational “what ifs” as the company positioned itself for major growth and expansion. While the existing finance team had exceptional technical skills, they needed strong direction around delivering information to the business in a way that would support high level operational decision-making.
Our Approach
Recognizing that Be The Match had gone through major transformation internally, our team made it a top priority to understand those changes and how they were affecting the organization’s culture. It quickly became evident that candidate prospects needed a unique blend of polished enterprise leadership skills, strong business acumen, and the ability to dig into the day-to-day details without getting overly frustrated. This required an extremely thorough research process on the front end of the project, and deep evaluations of each top candidate to ensure they had the ability to think strategically and tactically while navigating a complex $400M high-growth business with several subsidiaries and a changing org structure.
The Results
Our targeted approach to the search strategy coupled with an immense level of time dedication to the project allowed us to formally present a short-list of 7 highly impressive candidate prospects within just 3 weeks of starting our outreach process. All 7 candidates were selected for first round interviews followed by 3 finalist interviews shortly thereafter. An offer was extended to the top candidate who gladly accepted and is ecstatic about the next step in her career journey.
